In June 2012, my husband, daughter, and son attended the Kingdom Culture Conference at Bethel Church in Redding, CA. On the Saturday following the conference, we went to the Healing Rooms for prayer. I went to ask for prayer for my son, and when the team finished praying for him, they asked how they could pray for me. I was caught off-guard, as I had not given it thought, and am very healthy. But I remembered an infection that I had been living with for over 32 years.
Back in 1979, I was working as a nurse in a hospital. One of the patients I cared for had a serious infection with a virulent bacterium and was isolated to prevent its spread. He was in the hospital for an extended time. I contracted the infection in my nose, and it required a prescription antibiotic (Bactroban) to quell it. It would crop up every several months, and when it did, it continued to spread through the tissue, sometimes crossing the septum, and sometimes causing redness on the outside of the nose. If I tried to ignore it, it raged aggressively, carving ruts in the inner surface of my nose. No over-the-counter ointment helped.
I requested prayer for this infection. The team prayed for me, and then the lady on the team did a hongi, a traditional greeting of the Maori (aboriginal people of New Zealand) with me.
When I left, I resolved not to share this as a healing until one full year had passed because the infection can lie dormant for several months at a time. About six months after this prayer, the infection appeared to be cropping up again. That evening, I took it to the Lord with a sigh in my heart. I recalled the advice given at Bethel about maintaining one’s healing: if the symptoms were to crop up, I was to rebuke it and claim the healing. I did that and in the morning, it was all but gone. The next day there was no sign of it. I did not apply anything to it.
This happened three times during the year, and each time I rebuked it and each time it went away. For the previous 32 years, this was unheard of; without exception, it required application of the ointment to relieve it.
I am sharing this in order to give thanks and glory to God, Who is faithful and lavish toward us. I wish to join those who are bearing witness to the world that God, Who is the same yesterday, today, and forever, continues healing today, just as when Jesus walked the earth.
